School tours are a great opportunity for students to learn about the history of the Courthouse, while having fun participating in a mock trial.
Mt Martha Primary School toured the Courthouse in February 2014, and received an unexpected surprise when they entered a mock trial! Five classes took their turn in visiting the Courthouse, with an unsuspecting student from each class being put on trial for stealing a skateboard from school. They were then taken out to the Lockup in a ball and chain by one of their fellow class mates. Judge Bruce and Judge Keith (Courthouse volunteers) provided an entertaining mock trial for the students, teachers, and parents to enjoy.
The students then presented the Courthouse Coordinator with some lovely drawings of their reflections, thank you cards, and certificates of appreciation at a school assembly, which was appreciated by everyone.
School tours can be arranged on request.
